Either the OP is fibbing or they did not put £1500 through the account - that is the only reason they were charged £5 club fee.

Why ? They do not know or need to know how their payments interact with others, it is not their responsibility. The age of personal responsibility for managing your own affairs seems to have ended. Plenty of notice was given of the impending changes.
