Help please

Hi everyone, I recently came back to comping after a two year break following a bereavement in the family. I have been lucky enough to win a prize of a fire alarm for the house but when discussing with the company today have been told that after 6 months of having it I will need to pay 45 per month for monitoring. As I cannot really afford this shall I just turn the prize down or is it a bit unfair to offer something that is a prize but turns into a paying contract after a certain time? What do you all think?

  • To be fair I have checked the terms and conditions which say Prize is a TOP RESIDENTIAL KIT of a value of: £839, with 6 month free service fee worth £42/Month = £252 for 6 Months. The prices are valid on the day of the publication of this competition. I did not ready this when entering but it does not say you will have to take out the service in order to make use of the alarm
  • Hi can anyone help me with who I contact with regards to a prize and incorrect terms and conditions. The prize I won is taken away after 6 months if I do not start paying for it!! It was won via Homes magazine who agree the prize provider did not make its terms clear.

    It's not a "Fire Alarm" - It's a "Burglar Alarm"

As per the T&C's - Prize is a TOP RESIDENTIAL KIT of a value of: £839, with 6 month free service fee worth £42/Month = £252 for 6 Months

If you can't afford to keep on the service, simply ask the company to choose another winner
  • I would be a bit peeved by this. Personally I would say that I'm not prepared to have a 'prize' that I will have to pay for, and turn it down - hope there's a better win, waiting round the corner for you.
;) Working hard in the hopes of being 'lucky' ;)

Strange the magazine think that, it is a monitored alarm system, the monitoring costs £42 a month and six months is provided free as per the T&C's. There is no point in having it without paying for it to be monitored (it does not work as an "alarm" by itself).
  • Well that told me. Even the magazine who ran it thinks the terms and conditions were misleading and did not give enough information.
  • If you read it as written it says "Prize is a TOP RESIDENTIAL KIT of a value of: £839, " so that tells me that is the prize then after the comma it says "with 6 month free service fee worth £42/Month = £252 for 6 Months" no where does it say we will take the alarm back if you do not continue the service at a cost of.

Dynastic I find your response really rude, I am looking for help with a contact not someone to correct an error and tell me what you think I should do.

It does not work without paying for the monitoring, it is not a "noise" alarm.
  • Sadly MJM I did not know this as I have never had an alarm
