Am I breaking the rules or committing fraud in any way not using my middle name?

Options
I've just been questioning this over the past few weeks really. I started banking over three years ago with HSBC, and after scanning my documentation and everything, the account was opened using my first, middle and last name.

Though I never really use my middle name and I'm used to filling in applications with just my first and last, and so two years ago, I switched over to First Direct, just using my middle name. I remember the lady in the switching service telling me that every single detail from their records had to be the same as HSBC for the ability to switch, so I mentioned I didn't include my middle name and she said it didn't matter.

But I'm just noticing official documents since then adding it, such as other banks I've signed up for, or university last year, I applied using my first and last name and they later added my middle. It's kind of got to a point now where my First Direct account just doesn't look right not having that initial there.

Should I be informing them of this or just leave it how it is?

  • Leave it unless you will be in a position that you want to pay a cheque in your full name.
    How likely is that?

Check the CRA's to make sure the first direct account is being reported on there on the same report as your other accounts.

It'll be on the same report, but the report itself could contain an 'alias'.

Not an issue at all. No need to inform anyone, and it's abut as far from 'fraud' as you can get.

Where did the uni' get your middle name from?

Well basically I signed up with just my first and last name on UCAS from like the January onwards, but when I enrolled that particular September, they wanted ID like a passport so I handed it to them and the lady there made the correction :)
