Halifax Clarity: Retail promotion expiry - higher interest

I have a Halifax Clarity credit card that I use when going abroad. I have been fairly happy with it and found their online services easy to navigate. However, this month my statement included the following message:
"Retail promotion expiry message: Please note your rate of interest is 0.00% p.a. (variable) for Purchases. From 31 Dec 2016 your rate will be 25.95% p.a. (variable) for purchases".
I'll now have to pay 25.95% p.a. for Cash Transactions, Purchases, and Balance Transfer and Money Transfers, which I think is rather high. In addition I'd pay 23.29% p.a. (variable) for Default charges. Was this always part of their offer, or have I just been unlucky? And should I consider changing to another card provider that can offer me a better rate?
Many thanks for your help.

Those are the rates you'd have been given on opening the account. Nothing particularly extraordinary about them, though some will have lower, some higher.
You're free to apply elsewhere. If you're planning on carrying balances, then you need to look for long term promos.0 -
If you carry a balance find the thing cheaper.
If not, who cares what the APR is? Even for overseas cash.0 -
I didn't get a promotional rate on my one at all, but it has been worth it already. I'm still getting the £5 per month reward and made good use of it on a recent holiday.0
