Central Heating Problems

We're having a problem where the central heating system and the water only come on when the timer is set for it to, but it will not come on if we manually put on the heating. Not sure if the thermostat is working - if we turn the heating on manually and then turn the thermostat to the highest setting, it still doesn't kick start the boiler. The house is freezing most of the time (apart from the 3 times a day the timer is set to heat).
Not all the radiators get hot either.

Any ideas? The central heating system is only 5 years old.

How are you turning the central heating 'on' ? Can you supply pictures?

When the heating comes on with the timer, does the thermostat work? If so it is nothing to do with the thermostat, more likely to be a fault with the manual function of the timer. As stated above a picture of the timer would help.

    A bit confusing but :
does the just the HW come on when selected to HW only or does the heating come on as well ? It could be something as simple as a microswitch on the diverter.

Guessing you have thermostat valves on the radiators? Make sure theyre all on.

Go round and bleed every radiator. If there is air in a radiator it wont warm up as effectively. Ie only the water which sits towards the bottom of the radiator will warm up. Youll need a bleeding key.

I would guess the controller is knackered (or the manual override switch is more specifically). Details on the model would be helpful. If its is and you dont want to replace it just yet just adjust the times when the central heating kicks in and turn down the thermostats.
