It's either the ssd or 8gb, I am not planning on doing loads of work, making videos etc............I just want everyday browsing, fast reliable, maybe save a few photos etc.....what I want though is long lasting good performance.... so maybe the Asus? I would like to buy from JL for the aftercare and £500 is abt my limit. Many thanks.

The ASUS. It has a Full HD resolution screen, whereas the Dell, has 1366x768 - really poor IMO even though it's £100 cheaper.
RAM/HDD/SSD can USUALLY be upgraded later (you have to be careful these days with ultrabooks) but screens can't.
You could even buy a nice fast SD card and leave it in the laptop, and use it for your own files, leaving the 128GB SSD for the programs.0 -
