if used as a nappy a terry would dry more quickly than an all in one though, for example. i'll ask my mum or MIL about the folding, although i seem to remember i took over the care of my youngest brother, i was 9.5 and wanted to play mother, i did the nappies, the sterilising, the bottles - everything - she was sick at the smell of his soya milk and soya poo lol! so i might remember how to fold the terries anyhow.

I am not sure how many of the previous posts have come from men but here goes

Two declarations ; I have had two kids and used old fashioned nappies which iIhelped to wash/sanitise etc

; I am involved in the environment / waste management sector

So here goes.....as far as moneysaving goes it is a no brainer... re usable nappies win hands down every time ....by a clear mile. even more so if your Council has a subsidy on them

The discussion in 'technical press' is suggesting that the recent report is flawed for a number of reasons. I have not researched them but I was surprised at the outcome of the study and await with interest the bun fights that will follow

If nothing else it has raised the ante on the debate and as they say there is no such thing as bad publicity.........with one notable exception ....your own obituary.........Gerald Ratner may add another exception

did the report examine the use of modern reusables on subsequent children ?

nope, it didn't as far as I know.

Jellyhead, a nice similar option to all in ones are stuffable pocket nappies as they offer the same convienience but you can take out the stuffing so they dry much quicker, also have a look for wonderoos which are pocket nappies which are birth to potty due to the poppers, you just do them up differently as the baby grows! I sell them with microfibre inserts so they are very slim and absorbant.

you can use any wrap you like with bambinos, their own are quite expensive, tots bots or motherease would work just as well. nappi nippas are fabulous! when i first saw them i had one of those "it'll never work" moments, lol, but they are good, there is a great demo video on the tots bots website btw, they really are THAT easy! I'd also recommend fleece liners or fleece topped boosters they really help keep that dry feeling and hemp ones are very absorbant.

sorry am off on a ramble now, lol!

My son is 18 months old and we've used Kushies from the start. I got them from e bay in Canada. Much cheaper than in England. He's on the toddler size and we had 15 of the small size too. We don't use liners. Breast milk poos just washed in the machine no prob. Toddler poos just flush, which I do when I go to the loo to save water. I don't soak them, just put them in the machine at 60 degrees and let the water and powder go in then switch the machine off for 15 minutes.

The nappy soak I add to the wash says use 2 desert spoons per wash. I use one teaspoon with no probs. Less and he gets nappy rash. I line dry or use a clothes horse as we don't have a dryer. This also makes the plastic coating of the nappies last much longer. We wash our bath towels in the same wash to cut down on electricity.

The only problem is that, although the label says it should fit until 45lbs, at 31lbs and 90cm tall, my son can only just squeeze them on. I have yet to hear back from Kushies about my complaint.

Oh, we use Tesco value nappies at night as he gets nappy rash otherwise. They are 9p each.

And the small size nappies have been put away for the next one. Can't see that all this is as harmful to the environment as regular use of disposables!

What an interesting read. I use washables with my two little ones & have to say we only had problems when covers started to leak on bambino mio ones after a few months of wear. We changed to prowrap covers with no probs for the older one. My 8 wk old is in older ones original bambino mio covers with no probs though!

I use Lidl nappies for long days out & weeks away but find nappy rash worse with disposables, maybe because don't notice wetness so much.

Got £30 from council for both babies as we use washables.

May I ask how you got your vouchers? I contacted Sheffield council and they gave me a number because they said they didn't deal with it directly. I have left several messages on the number but no one ever calls me back. Since our nappies are getting too small, I need to buy some breatheable covers for terry towelling ones and would appreciate some help with it. (I'm also going to cut up some old towels to use.)

I also contacted Bambino Mio, explaining my situation and asking if they could advise me (and maybe send a voucher for their product.) I got an immediate response saying they haven't got any vouchers. Hmmm!

What situation? Am I correct in thinking that because you can't contact Sheffield council you asked for a voucher from Bambinos?

When my Bambinos leaked, the company issued me with replacements straight away...which still wicked really badly...but hey, have spent the money now and i AM going to use the blighters.

My council actually gave me hard cash upon production of a receipt for the reuseables, no vouchers to use for a company. Is sheffield different to this?

No, of course I didn't expect a nappy company to issue me with a voucher to replace the council one. But some companies do give vouchers to encourage you to spend on their product. Just look at some of the other threads to see which ones. (Ecover are reportedly very generous. Very helpful if you're constantly washing nappies!)

By situation I simply meant that I bought what I was led to believe would be enough nappies to see my son through till he was potty trained and at 18 months old, they're already too small. Kushies shouldn't say the nappies will fit a 45lb baby if my 31lb son can barely get them on. (He's not fat, just very tall.)

he's only 18 months old and the toddler size don't fit anymore? i'd be annoyed too!

i think my council gives 3 lots of £10 on receipt, but i don't have any receipts for my nappies unless they'll take ebay receipts lol! i suppose i could buy the washable swimming trunks and use those recipts.

I e-mailed local council via nappy network website for suffolk and they sent me form to complete. Try contacting waste minimisation dept of you local council.

When I called Bambino Mio and complained about my covers they told me they wouldn't replace them as they will only last a few months, that's annoyed me now! i wish i'd told them it wasn't good enough. Anyway i changed to prorap covers and they are doing really good and have had them at least same length of time as i used the rubbish bigger mio covers for.
