Have you considered asking on a French equivalent to this site?

Considered yes, but as with many questions, I normally find MSE is the best bet, as it has the most helpful and fastest responses.

looking at the responses so far, mse doesn't seem very helpful!

If "contribution" is judged by how much it reinforces your preconceptions, that may be true.

As a seller YOU will not pay the agents fees! It is the buyers who pay, all the seller pays is a fixed fee to the Notaire.
Ask the Notaire you bought through if they will advertise for you. Some do it for free, you just have to pay the Normal Notaires fees.
IMO there are NO on-line sites worth the fees they charge, we have sold five properties in France over the past 20 years and tried a few. If you want to avoid your buyer paying the agents fees it is better to make your own website with the house for sale which will cost very little and try promoting it as much as possible.
There are regular property exhibitions in the UK who want to charge private sellers to advertise with them, these also IMO are a waste of money. Much better to put flyers on all the cars in the exhibition centres car park, perhaps make a banner to hold up, frowned on but worth a go.

When we were looking, I found this site interesting: http://www.green-acres.com/ However we bought privately, having seen an AV sign on the house.

When we sold, the local estate agents were more than useless, so I ended up putting an advert on leboncoin.fr and sending enquirers a pdf document I'd put together with full details and photos. We had far more interest and viewings from that, and got a buyer that way.

No, the niche is to set up a French equivalent of Rightmove.

If Rightmove wanted to, they'd be the ones to do it, since they have the systems and infrastructure in place. Just repeat in a different market.
