Looking for some advice please - first home!

Hi all,
I know this has been done before but I am struggling to find an up to date thread.
My partner and I will be moving out in January for the first time.
We will be renting a 1 bedroom flat (ex council) and I am looking for an idea of monthly bills - we plan to pay with direct debits monthly!
Obviously I know how much the rent and council tax are but I'm wondering if anyone in similar circumstances could let me know how much I would be looking at for gas, electric and water/sewerage.
I know this is a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but any idea would be fab!

I work 4 long days a week and my partner works 6 days so we are out during the day.
We have gas central heating and electric over and hob.

Thanks all in advance!! :rotfl:

Ours are £55 for gas+electricity from the same supplier (averaged over the year) and £30 for water and sewerage, both of us working full time, 1 bed flat.

See https://www.uswitch.com for an idea of prices in your area.

Don't forget phone, broadband, TV licence, insurance as applicable.

You might find a joint account useful for the household bills (and Direct Debit is a good idea as you've identified).
  • Thanks so much for your quick reply!
At least I was on the right wave length with my budgeting!
I have looked into broadband/phone deals and we have a freesat box already!
    Thanks again!

When we rented a one bed house (no garden though) it was all electric. Paid around £40 a month on electricity and averaged £90 for water for the year.

Both had full time jobs and were out the usual mon-fri during day times, 1-2 washes a week.

We also had a dehumidifier for the last six months as it was a crappy new build and ventilation was shocking.
  • Thank you for your reply!
I guess we won't know for definite until we are in and I have spoken to the suppliers but your replies have given me an idea of what we would be paying out!!
