New kitchen bit by bit

We are not in desperate need of a new kitchen, however some aspects need replacing (hob, cooker hood potentially, sink and taps) so wondering if doing so is a huge issue when, further down the line, we change the worktops and units? Currently all we have done is tile the walls and have a new oven, but need a new hob, possibly cooker hood and, not essential but would like, sink and taps.
I assume that once these bits are all in the current space, all we need to do in future is ensure that everything is measured as it is now and replace old with new, or am I missing something?
Sounds really basic but am a newbie so want to ensure that there is nothing I have overlooked.

Parents' kitchen was so old that when they did need a new hob, nothing was the same size as the existing cut out so they had to have a fresh start,
Sink/ taps should be straightforward though as should cooker hood0 -

Fair enough. Ours isn't that old so am pretty sure sizes are similar, however will check.0
