New gas hob

So it turns out that the gas hob in our new house is a bit grim and doesn't work particularly well, so a new one is required. Never bought one before so no idea what to look for. Nothing overly cheap or expensive, mid range basically.
I assume that:
- most are of a standard size
- one lifts out and new one dropped in, whilst being plumbed in by a gas safe engineer
- don't have to buy cooker hood as well, if that is fine. Presumably this is just electric so when do need to buy one, can be self installed safely?
Any brands to look for/avoid? Good websites to get one from? Any other advice welcomed.

We had a Belling GHU60GE unit fitted last year, along with the matching built under BI60FP oven in white. Still looks and works great, the enamel is high quality. My brother-in-law does kitchens, and did ours, He was very impressed with the quality and the ease of fitment.
consider where the controls go. We wanted them on the side rather than across the front.
Sister brand is New World - similar units but some differences.
Good luck,

Went for a BOSCH one in the end. Looks very nice to begin with but hard to clean so even though it's a week old it looks much older. Disappointing, but there you go.0
