Help October tax code change

Yes it did include 2015 /2016
He got a rise in January of this year . His earnings tax year to 2016 were 36,589
Although he may get close to the higher tax bracket his boss said his yearly income will be about £40000 so I'm assuming the car tax benefit is then on top of that ? But I thought the marriage tax allowance would run April to April as obviously br hasn't' gone into the higher tax bracket yet ?0 -
If my memory serves me right I think his rise worked out about an extra £200 a month ?0

Right been looking through old pay slips and it's all coming back to me now . hubby used to get a basic wage and then commission when he got his rise it was pretty much the normal basic and commission added together so that it was guaranteed every month . At the most an extra £50 or so was added on top so although it was a rise of sorts it just made his basic guaranteed rather than having to worry about commission and having to hit a bonus every month hope that makes sense ? I really can't see that anything has changed that much apart from the removal of the married tax allowance ?0

HMRC will have an estimate your husband will be a higher rate taxpayer. with £21000 earnings upto date a company car and a bonus at christmas.
without figures its hard to say but id be guessing he'll probably exceed £430000 -
The normal threshold for higher rate tax last year was £42385 so wages of £36589 (assuming that is the P60 pay figure) leaves £5796 before higher rate tax is due.
What were the company benefits for 2015:16 on hubbies P11D?
Chances are hubby has got a bill for last year's underpaid tax on its way and the HMRC are trying to avoid it happening again this year.
The higher rate limit this year is £43000 so wages £40000 plus company car is likely to make hubby higher rate payer and he would lose the Marriage Allowance in that case0 -
Not sure about P11D but just found his wage slip for last November ( only a month's difference ? ) and his taxable gross pay then was £22863 ?0
-
So if last tax year he earnt £36589 and had a company car why was he not in the higher tax bracket then ? I'm confused0
-
My guess is he was in the higher rate bracket and he will have to pay back the marriage allowance for last tax year (and this year hence the new tax code he has just got)
If there is tax owed for last year then it will normally be possible to pay it off through next year's tax code starting in April 2017.
Without full details of his income though it's impossible to be sure. P11D details would help, alternatively what is included in this years tax code?0 -
Ok will post tax code details in a little while . Is there anything on wageslips to say he's a higher tax payer . we've never had this problem before lol0

Latest tax code says
Personal allowance £11000
Less car benefit £8361
Tax free amount £2369
Tax code is 263L replaces 373 M
You may pay too little tax £254.36
Then it says hg may not pay enough tax by 5th April 2017 so they will check his pay and tax information in April ?0
