Soft Credit Check making link to partner?

Hi all,
Only moved to the uk 3 years ago so the age of my accounts ( and sometimes the credit % usage) pulls down my credit score ( I realise 'score' is fairly 'irrelevant' anyway )

Anyway - My wife has been in the uk all her life.

So as not to be 'pulling down' her score, as i grew mine, I always ensure we don't apply for credit together.

I've recently been doing some online AIP / soft credit checks ( both of us listed ) for a mortgage and now were are linked on Experian !

I'm a bit annoyed about this, as I didn't think a ' soft check ' would create a financial link.

Its not the end of the world as we'd likely be applying for a mortgage anyway together , But I'm now concerned her rating will be dragged down ( and make credit cards etc / more expensive for her)

Any advise ? I guess we just have to suck it up.

Are you sure the AIP are only soft searching your credit files?
  • Yes,
They are only showing as soft search on the CRA.

A joint application will create an association regardless of the nature of the search.

If you haven't opened the account which caused it, you can obtain disassociation forms from the CRAs to sever your histories again.

However, next joint application will simply put it back again.

  • ok - I fully understood a joint application would cause a link

But - a soft credit application ? I want to be 100% clear on this if possible ?
