I never understand how someone claiming disability benefits can claim carers allowance for looking after someone else. This is a loophole that needs closing.
I agree, but this is not Discussion Time, maybe you should write to your MP.

    in many cases, i agree.
i have never claimed carers allowance, but did used to care for my father in law, so could have. i also receive DLA at a rate that means someone COULD ( but doesn't) claim CA for looking after me.

so although i am classed as disabled, the nature of my disability means that i am capable of providing care.

i am blind. i can cook with supervision.
my father in law had COPD and severe nerve damage to his hands and arms due to terribly burn injuries when he was young.

i used to cook for him and he would supervise me and make sure i wasn't doing anything too dangerous ;)

he couldn't change his own bed, but i could do it.
i couldn't read my own mail, must he was more than capable of doing it for me.

so yes, 2 disabled people can provide the required care as long as their disabilities 'compliment' each pther

It's more than just cooking though, it is supposed to be providing 35 hours of care a week.

Anyway, we all know that CA is totally abused. People don't claim because they care for the person, they claim because the person got the DLA/PIP which allow them to do so. Since there no checks to ensure they meet the criteria, it's the easiest benefit to claim doing nothing.

All this whilst some carers, those who genuinely had to give up well paid jobs to care for a love person for much longer than 35 hours don't get anywhere close to what the income they use to bring in. Disgraceful.

They all live in the same house and both mum and dad are capable of supervising the children 24/7 and as requiring supervision alone can and does get people including children the high or middle care of DLA it follows that someone can and should claim carers if they provide 35+ hours weekly supervision to them with no physical care provided or needed.
