Post Office Platinum Card

I have a Platinum card for use when travelling abroad. I have found it impossible to use in USA as despite phoning four times at my expense to get the block lifted, the card is still being declined despite using chip and pin. I was told that the USA is a high risk of fraud area so the transactions are being automatically declined. What use is a card that you can't use to buy anything when you are on holiday? I have also e mailed customer services but no reaction as yet.

The PO cards are issued by Bank of Ireland, whose customer support is notoriously dire. There are better alternatives:

I go all over the world with my Halifax Clarity and never notify them in advance.

I've had it for 3 years and never had a transaction declined - even when on two continents in the same day.

I used my (former) Post Office credit card almost exclusively in the US and never had a single issue on that front. That was pre-Chip & Pin, I only ditched them as their customer service and internet facility was dire.
