Car insurance - shall I just plump for the cheapest quote?

Hi,
I own a 2007 Japanese hatchback (which I bought for £1,100 a year ago) which has 90k miles on the clock, does about 2,000 miles a year and (being in London) spends most of its life sitting on my driveway. I've had it for a year and it's time to renew insurance with a year's NCB.
For the reasons listed above, I figure that I only need the legal minimum third party insurance. I was going to plump for the lowest quote but thought I'd ask wiser heads around if there is anything else I should look out before when doing that?
Thanks,
K

As with anything, you get what you pay for.
Ultimately an insurance is only tested at point of claim, so it depends if you're likely to make a claim on your own policy.
If you aren't, then yes you only need TP cover. But you may find it cheaper to go Comp, as there is a bigger 'pool' for the risk to be spread over.0 -
3rd party may cost more than comprehensive insurance.
Go comp.. and stick a high excess in, although pushing it too high can
increase the premium also. Sticking down 2000 miles a year may cost
more than sticking 6000 miles a year.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I'd strongly recommend Fully Comprehensive Insurance. It is also usually the cheapest and covers a lot more thanks Third Party, which is often the most expensive.
I also wouldn't put the annual mileage too low. Try about 6000. An excess of £100 to £200 would be ideal. Don't put it too high in the unlikely event that you do need to claim.
Oh. FYI I went with the cheapest quote for my car insurance.

Thank you very much for the tips. I didn't know that you could set your excess too high or your mileage too low. I'll tweak those a bit and see how that changes the quotes.
I definitely don't need comp (unless it's coming out cheaper than TP or TPFT) as I wouldn't bother making any non minor repairs and it's highly unlikely that any thief would want to nick it.0 -
Give it a try on the screenscraper price sites & have a look - you might be startled!0

Personally I could have gone for a cheaper policy earlier this year but chose to stay with direct line because I was happy with them, they hadn't messed me about so have no reason to complain.0
