Easyfundraising

This may not be the place to ask the question but - my organisation is using Easyfundraising and before I promote it to new members to use, I would love to know a bit more about it. I know hundreds of organisations have signed up and see it as a way of getting "free money" but I'd love to know what is going on under the bonnet. Is it a way of businesses gathering data on shoppers and their habits? Or is it really just free money falling out of the sky? Googling "What is Easyfundraising?" just returns pages of the promotional strapline on endless group and organisation websites. Does anyone here know?

Its a cashback site , but very poorly paying as the rates are far lower than topcashback or quidco for example

I'd never use them given the choice

our charity has been using it for about 8 years and so far donations have been sent to us of around £12000
it is VERY user friendly and there are NO drawbacks for the charity or the customer - I use it myself and have a "reminder" on my google tool bar that whenever I link to a shop to buy something or even browse -it prompts me to "activate" the donation which you do by clicking on the link.
Funds are paid directly into the Charity bank account quarterly and we get an e mail advising us of how much has been raised.
it may not be the highest fundraising amount- but it is idiot proof and if you use it as well as other similar cashback providers - you lose nothing
    hope this helps

  • Thanks for the replies. I am aware that using easyfundraising can generate some cash but my question is what is happening behind the scenes? If I am going to urge people to use it, I want to know what I'm promoting. What does the organisation (EF) get out of it? Why on earth would they do it if there was nothing in it for them? So my question is - what IS in it for them? Do they collect data on shopping habits of users, and if so, what happens to that data?

They are , I assume from the cash back rates, taking a cut from all transactions
