1000 photos to copy, would I need 1tb or 2tb external hard drive ? Flash drive ?

Options
I've approx 1000 photos which I've never backed up or copied so will buy an external hard drive. Should I get a 1tb or 2tb and is there any other thing I should look for when buying one?

If I copy all photos to hard drive and then delete from my laptop will it run faster as its very slow?

A mate said just buy a usb flash drive, which one be best it or a external hard drive?

Cheers

Joe

USB flash drives are not suitable for long term storage, they're great for taking stuff to and from work, from your house to mum & dad's house and is not the end of the world if it breaks. An external drive would be better in the long run.

The speed of the laptop may increase, it depends on its specs and how full the hard drive is. If it's totally rammed and full, it will run faster when you remove the photos, otherwise it, um, won't :)

Regardless of that, if the photos are important you should be backing them up anyway.

1000 photo's are probably less than 4GB never mind 1TB.

Store them on-line in MS one-drive

Or google photos, you can set it to automatically upload all photos which you put on your laptop.

Click the "Report" button in the bottom right corner, and just ask the mods to delete it for duplication.
  • An easy answer to your Q, highlight your photos folder then right click on it, in the drop down menu select properties and it will give you the size from that you can choose the size of the storage divice. Personally I would get a big ex Hdd 2.5 inch usb which powers from your pc, store all your photo's and much more, even put back ups on it

Unlikely, but it will mean you still don't have a backup of your photos!

If im honest, not at all... Having 1000 images is only using up HHD space, 2-3gb max depending on image quality. You more need run anti-virus, spyware etc and see what comes back!
