Contacting companies to find out about PPI?
However there's several other companies who don't have numbers to call, and I don't have any real information to provide them up front. I know I can submit a SAR for £10, but is there a generic letter which you can send to just ask whether you have had PPI in the past, without receiving the full account(s) breakdown, in the same way I have done this morning with a phonecall to RBS/BoS?
I'm not sure we'll have much to claim, so don't want to be sending off £10 each SAR's to several places when it's probable that only one or two may have PPI attached.
Thanks!

just ring up the institutions concerned or write and ask them directly. You don't need any complex form letter. Just ask straight out "Did I (name) have PPI on account XXXX during dates XXXX? ". It really is that simple. Most providers will answer yes or no to such a direct question.
However, if accounts are closed and/or you no longer have account information then you may well need to send them a formal Subject Access Request (SAR) letter. As you acknowledge, these will cost £10 each which might prove expensive if no PPI is found.
Claims Companies cannot do any more than you can do in these circumstances and charge a huge proportion of any redress you might win.0 -
The £10 covers everything the firm has on you, you only need to do one per firm
Did you sign a letter of authority with the claims firm? Do you have it in writing they are not representing you if they have started the processSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

No, I haven't actually spoken to any of the Claims companies. Was just about to call them this morning when I had 2nd thoughts.
I'll try calling some of these companies if I can find contact details, I would just have rather sent a letter with our details if it was an option because I spent 25 mins on the phone to BoS and if they're all like that then I'll quickly run out of time (and patience
) and probably not get round them all.
Thanks for the replies though ... now off to find some details for Ikano Bank to enquire about the wifes New Look account.0 -

Oh I agree, it just sounded like they were expecting to send off multiple DSARs e.g. two to Barclays - one for a Barclays loan and a separate one for Barclaycard
Last 6 years of your credit history can be cleaned from Noddle (call credit) and Clear Score (Equifax) for free and for £2 statutory report from Experian (or use the free trial 30 day)
Beyond that, ring up, don't SARSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

PLEASE!!!Don't be cross if this is in the wrong place its my first post and not sure.
Hi and good day to one and all.
I am unsure what to do in regards to a possible PPI claim.
My wife and I arrived in England 16 years ago. We went through some seriously hard times in the beginning, however we are now in a good place after some serious hard work. When we first arrived here we were subject to all sorts of bank accounts , loans etc.......
Unfortunately we have not got all the info that is required for a claim, let alone remember any of the account numbers.(theft)
Is there any way of doing this on my own or would it be better to ask a company to try with a no win no fee basis?
I know its like swearing on this forum, but we just don't have all the info.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Obviously no point in using a company. They will rely on you telling them who to complain to and why.
If you believe you were mis sold PPI, write to those companies with your reasons.0
