Buying Chesterfield Sofas...

Apologies if this is not the right place to post!

I am looking to buy a set of chesterfield sofas - either a 3 + 2, or 2 + 2 + armchair.

I do not have the largest budget, so was initially looking second hand - but they get snapped up very quickly, and often bidding on ebay goes way above what we are willing to spend on a 2nd hand sofa with rips... (e.g going up to £500 and it is in disrepair)
We also don't have any way of picking items up ourselves, so would need delivery and many personal sales will not deliver.

I have found 'designer sofas 4u' on ebay, but the name sounds sooo dodgy! I can find mixed reviews, mainly good with a few awful ones... I've heard some reviews can be made up...

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of buying from this company?
Or, if anyone can recommend somewhere else to buy Chesterfields from? We are looking for Leather, preferably distressed oxblood.

Thanks in advance! :D

I can't comment on that site, but I bought a 3 seater reclining sofa for my cinema room recently from an online site. Price was good, not the cheapest but also probably 40% cheaper than regular traders. Anyway, its nice and it does the job but I doubt I'd have bought it if I'd tried it first. The build quality isn't the best and its not the most comfortable.

So if this is a daily use sofa then I'd say don't buy anything without trying it first as you'll be stuck with it for a long time!

Second hand oxblood chesterfields are ten a penny. You can easily get a decent 2 or 3 seater for £400-500 - without rips. Keep your eye out on gumtree etc.

I am presuming you have sat in one before, and not just for a few mins. i bought one, loving the look, but after a month I sold it, it was horrible to sit on!

    Oh dear!
We have sat in them plenty of times at pubs/bars but never for a longer amount of time. To be honest, i love the look of them, and have considered buying a complimenting sofa that isn't the same, but goes with the chesterfield if we cannot afford a set.

We only know 2 people who have them - one who has the DFS Oskar set (too expensive, and i dislike the design) and one who has a 'proper' chesterfield from a london-based furniture company, where they are around £1200 starting point for a 3 seater.
Both of them have no complaints.

I don't know a lot about furniture but I do know that it is all about the quality of the leather and the build. What may look good now could look a mess in a few months. I got two Thomas Lloyd chesterfields from ebay. They are amazing, look beautiful, are comfortable and we have had them for 3 years so far and are still as good in fact I think they look better.

I know it is easy to say but I would just wait and shop around. Quality furniture is not cheap but it will last you longer and look better.

I've had a look on their website, and they actually seem quite reasonable for brand new. I will have a look at that particular manufacturer, thank you :)

Thomas Lloyd chesterfields are lovely. I've had mine since 1992.

Gone a bit soggy where OH flops down and wearing on edge of cushion where I sit. I will replace it with the same in a couple of years.
