Utility providers should not be allowed to report your accounts to the CRAs

I find utility companies to be the most shambolic when it comes to sorting out billing problems.
Companies should be made to observe due diligence in these matters, and being able to report on your credit file is totally wrong, and should be outlawed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I had no problems at all with Scottish Power for the 5 years I used them. Everything went smoothly, paid by direct debit, papeless billing, direct debit adjusted regularly to the amount of energy I was using, and when I left they sent me a cheque refunding the amount I'd overpaid without me ever asking for it.0

I have no problem with the concept of utilities reporting the conduct of monthly budget/DD accounts to CRAs. It is a form of credit after all. It also can help people looking to build a good history.
I think the biggest issue is the lack of accountability and utilities are probably the worst. Until a company can show it is billing people properly it should, I believe, be prevented from reporting to CRAs. So many are being taken to task over their billing after all. When that happens, why are not told to stop reporting at the same time?0
