Trying to port a landline phone without paying high rental

I have two landlines but I would like to keep the second landline number for occasional incoming calls only.

I have looked at Localphone but are any other companies that will port landlines cheaply? I need more an answering service than a landline.
I have broadband etc on the landline I am keeping.

You don't say who your provider is, but BT CallSign is a service that allows you to have a real and virtual number terminating on a single line. The different ring pattern determines which number is being called.

Thanks for your quick reply but I am with SKY. I have a cheap package with them through Love Digital, so it wouldn't be worth moving the phone rental & broadband to BT
