What to do with Step and Wood Flooring in Landing

Hi There,

We have a Victorian Maisonette and are looking at getting engineered wood floors put in throughout the landing/hallway area. What we are trying to decide is how to best handle a step up half way down the landing

The OH is not keen on cladding the whole thing with stair nosings so we were thinking about we would like to stripping the stairs and painting them white, to match the main flight of stairs up into the flat.

My question is could we get away with having a ramp down to the edge of the top stair then painting the whole thing or would this look strange? Otherwise do we need to get a single stair nosing for the top section then paint only the middle step/riser white? Would this look ok?

If this is going to look "strange" we would need to look at getting nosing for both of the stairs but they each add to the cost so we are looking to avoid this if possible and want to tie it in with the main entrance stairs

Many thanks for your thoughts on how you would best handle this!
