Insurance on Lease Car help

Hi all,


I have recently started a lease on a vehicle. I took the policy out a few days before I received the car. At this point I was under the impression the lease company were the register owner and I was the registered keeper.


Paperwork has finally come through and when I queried it the lease company told me I am not the register keeper - they are.


Is this something I need to update the insurance company with? Would they necessarily look in to this?

Yes you need to inform your insurer about your mistake.

This is an important issue which could allow your insurer to void your policy should you not tell them and they discover the truth eg. At the time of a claim

Ok thank you. Could they back charge me the period insured which was not accurate?

Yes, although I'd be surprised if this makes a material difference to premium.

Unlikely.

You may be in line for an admin charge for making a change.

Worst case will be that they won't continue the policy ( if they don't cover leased cars), meaning cancellation charges.
