M8s android tv box stuck

Hello
I have a six month old box which is stuck on standby and wont boot or respond to the remote control. I have googled reset methods with a toothpick/jeweller's screwdriver and I cannot get it to work. I bought it from Amazon and after some discussion, they have agreed I can return it.
The problem is that, given it is essentially a computer, my personal data, such as my Amazon account for Prime, emails etc, are still on there and they require me to wipe it before returning it. How can I do that if I cannot reset it..........Anyway, I was wondering if I changed my passwords for various accounts, that would be safe enough?
What do other people do about "bricked" computers with personal data on. Im just worried that it will get resold and someone savvy will hack my stuff.
