Summer 2016 holiday in Europe

While flights to Europe are still quite cheap I am thinking ahead to next summer and my summer holiday. I would like to visit Auschwitz concentration camp and the salt mines in Poland for a few days and I would also like to spend a couple of days in Prague taking in Wenceslas Square the castle and the old town. I will then have 2-3 days left of my holiday to take in somewhere/something else.
Can anyone advise of where I should go for a few days? I am looking for somewhere reasonable close to Prague/Poland that I can get to by train. It will be my wife and I on the holiday and we are looking to go to places of interest or places with a bit of history. We will be taking the holiday in July/august.
Any suggestions most welcome.

Flying from and back to Belfast or Dublin. Would prefer train as it allows you to see the country side as you travel but we would not rule out flying.Val

I did that last year, after Prague I went to place called Brno which is a fascinating little place still in the Czech Republic. I got the bus which took slightly less than 3hrs, cant remember how much it cost but it was cheap and the bus was very comfortable - with entertainment and free coffee. You will not see anything like The Capuchin Monastery and Vault anywhere else, more than enough to keep you amused for a couple of days. They also have a small airport which was easy to get to.
