Strange police car

There are a few that were recovered under (I think) proceeds of crime legislation and drafted into service.
I vaguely remember seeing one once (an older Fiesta) which had no light bar etc. just the force crests and a slogan that it had been donated for community support use. So possibly, for going round and talking to the WI about crime prevention or schools liaison and stuff like that. Presumably, that's cheaper since they don't have to fit lights, radio or anything else and that releases an equipped Panda for patrolling. However, seeing more obviously marked cars on the road keeps the Neighbourhood Watch types happy and might be a deterrent to Anti-Social Behaviour.Police do some stuff which isn't about chasing criminals and may not be what some of the public expect police to do. They used to have unmarked cars for 'other duties' but they are all now expected to be marked.I need to think of something new here...0 -
Was it one of these?

'Crime Division officers tend to use semi-marked or unmarked hatchback and estate cars. Vauxhall Movano vans are also used, some acting as mobile offices. Some of these vehicles are modified for police use with radios, lights, sirens and a 'run lock' facility enabling officers to take the keys out of the ignition without stopping the engine running, thereby ensuring the battery is not depleted if the lights need to be left on for long periods of time'Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Run locks not been fitted anymore due to problems with modern diesel engines. They claim it's not needed due to the led lights. Still nice to get back into a warm car so it was a good feature.0 -

Weren't the police aware that it's an offence to leave a vehicle with the engine running?0 -

My word, it was indeed
4th row down, left hand side - that's exactly it !! Thank you so much ! I'm going to do a bit of research on that now
I'd been trying to Google it, but the term "semi-marked" never occurred to me.
I just hate seeing something and not knowing what it's about. Reckon I must be a bit OCD :rotfl:
Thanks again, you are a superstar :T0 -
Anybody remember these?0 -

Our local Police (Newark) use plain cars as the OP stated. They are used by the community support team.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
