    Ok, thanks folks - will go for another quote then, and see if that was expensive, or whether we just live in an expensive area :)

    Edit to add: Have just realised that I did mention birds nesting, so they are probably anticipating removing a birds nest as well, which might explain the extra cost. Will see what the others come up with!

    Last time I was looking for cowls they was a variety in both the Screwfix and the Toolstation catalogues. Check these out, pick a suitable size, shape and colour and you will then have an indication of the materials cost. Some are also a simple fit - so a minimal labour cost here.
