Would a balance transfer count towards spending?

I have spent some of my savings this month using my credit card (Tesco Clubcard). I used my credit card to get the clubcard points.
I recently cancelled my Santander credit card because the interest rate period ended and because of the monthly charge. Is it worth replacing the Santander credit card with an American Express credit card (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/cashback-credit-cards). I understand that if you spend £2K in the first month then you get £100 cashback.
Would a balance transfer count towards the 2K spending requirement for the £100 cashback.

No it would not -it would have to be for physical goods or a service such as an insurance policy or say flight e-tickets.0

I realise that. I am asking if I can open an American Express credit card to transfer the balance from my credit card. If I cannot do this then I will wait for another month when I have a big spend.0
