If you have negative equity, and both have debt problems, have you considered bankruptcy.

With negative equity your house would likely be safe
If you have an IPA it'll be for three years, an IVA would be 5-6
You cant fail bankruptcy, nor do your creditors have to agree

It did cross my mind, but unfortunately my husband would loose his job and I think there would be a high chance I would loose mine too.

Itake it you've taken independent advice on this, as for some its less clear cut than others, it would be a shame to pick a none optimal solution based on misinformation
