The ESA Support group is in for a rough ride with potential changes, which could make it more like the WRAG group,
with getting the people who are in the support group to take activities, or see other therapists etc, and much more.
"Government plans to make many ESA support group claimants undertake work-related activities"

Do you think this can be overturned with a petition ?
This will cause so much stress and tension to disabled people in the support group, how do you tell them that you are in for a rough ride in 2017?

This will have an affect on the sick people, especially to their mental health.The government has launched a consultation on changes to the work capability assessment which they say is aimed at putting “an end to the binary ‘can work/can’t work’ groups.” One of the aims of the green paper appears to be to oblige many claimants in the support group to undertake work-related activities.
The government’s green paper proposes a number of measures, including:
- a review of Statutory Sick Pay and GP fit notes to support workers back into their jobs faster, and for longer;
- encouraging Jobcentre Plus work coaches to signpost claimants to therapy;
- the launch of a consultation on Work Capability Assessment reform;
- encouraging employers to work with their employees with long-term health conditions to stop them from falling out of work;
- to extending fit notes from doctors to other healthcare professionals to help ensure people receive more tailored support;
- developing large scale trials on how health-led services and support can help get disabled people and those with long-term conditions back into work – with a specific focus on mental health and musculoskeletal conditions;
- a wide-ranging debate about recognising the value of work as a health outcome.
Do you think this can be overturned with a petition ?

Support group is not being crushed! They're saying people will get the support they rightly deserve. I for one would appreciate it.0

most of the points raised seem quite reasonable to me ... and i am in the ESA support group.
the thread title is more than mis;reading and may cause the more vulnerable reader a deal of additional stress and worry.
scaremongering is cruel to those in the affected group... so WELL DONE OP
no information just possibly's and perhaps'

Why are people so quick to try and frighten others unnecessarily? It is disgraceful.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

It's from Benefits and Work. Their scaremongering has been going on for years and is disgraceful.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Trying to up their subscriber numbers no doubt.

It's not scare tatics. The current Government have only one aim - reduce the welfare state at any cost. The ESA cuts are going ahead regardless whether these people will get jobs or not. They don't really care what happens to these people, as long as the Government save money.
I am cynical about these plans as we've heard it all before from all political parties.0 -
It is not saving the government money it is trying to save the hardworking tax payer money.
Disability is the 2 highest drain on the public purse there are too many claiming and not enough paying. Sites like this and work and benefit just fuel the flame of entitlement.
It is surprising how many when kicked off DLA /ESA/ PIP manage to find work and hold down a job.
there are so many who don't realy want to give up the lifestyle when pushed no matter how many times the say they would.
Lets be honest why goto work for 40 hours a week for minimum wage when you get more at home pretending / over egging / thinking they are too ill to work. There is plenty out there just watch channel 5 or visit any town centre where you find the magic floating stick/crouch brigade or the scooter racers because it is cheaper that a car.
Makes me sick.
As a disabled person who works 40 hours a week and gets top level DLA on an indefinite basis, and who previously claimed ESA purely because I was physically unable to work, your comment is literally invalid. For the vast majority of people, having a disability isn't a lifestyle - I'd rather have my sight back than get extra money.
Go be a daily mail reader somewhere else, because it isn't tolerated here.0 -

Your so ignorant that you fail to realise that you get DLA/PIP whether you work or not.
Oh and plenty of disabled people work who get DLA. I'm one of them.0 -
My OH works 40 hours a week in a hard manual job and drives an hour each way to and from work and he claims DLA quite legitimately. (Mental health- he's acutely delusional) If I lost my PIP and ESA I would have to live off my partner- the last job I attempted to go for told me I'm a health and safety risk. Mrs Ryan , you say your husband has mental health issues as does my wife, she also goes to work albeit part time as it is therapeutic for her condition. I just wanted to say, good luck to your Husband & all who have these problems, I stand by & watch, I think to myself as I watch their struggles, how brave & determined they really are to try & get better. You have to see it through their eyes to truly understand the torment they go through, it humbles me & I admire their strength.0
