The moving of a gas meter

Options
Hello there, Anyone know how much it would cost to move my gas meter ? its currently in my front room and i want to move it about 3 foot so its outside..(the other side of the wall)
the other question is will they move any existing pipes connected to the meter ? (boiler, gas fire) or will i have to have those moves seperately.

Why don't you ask them as only they can move your meter.

  • I am hopefully today having my meter moved.
Got in touch with gas supplier in July, who after about 5 different phone numbers managed to get me through to the right department/company
They sent out a pack so you can estimate how much the work will cost, sent pack off with debit card details, they took my money on 24th July (£451 !!!!!!) to move the box 4 metres along an outside wall. I rang end of August and was told they were coming on 3rd Sept, didn't turn up, rang the next day, still didn't turn up, rang the next day to be told the contractor had not recieved our details so they would ring me direct. icon8.gif
Finally got a letter saying they are coming today, fingers crossed.
So the outcome of the long wait is I, OH and Daughter have been living at my mums since July as the building work has had to stop on our house because of the meter position.
Not really an answer to your question but I feel better venting my anger!!!!! And hopefully my builder will be ringing soon to say the gas men have been
  • I'm glad you feel better after that misspolly, i'm certainly expecting shinanigans and i suppose i'm not suprised to find it cost an arm and a leg to move something.
as for the other pipes i thought that with the utility company using contractors there would be a "not my job mate" mentality but i guess we shall see
  • Just had it moved from the Kitchen to the driveway. The cost is dependent on how far the gas supply is to the new box position (something they expect you to know). Our new position was directly on top of the gas supply so you might have thought it would be cheap and easy. It took two of them 1 hours work and an hour in the van to dig a hole and put a white box on the wall for the new gas meter and remove the gas meter from the kitchen. All this cost a cheap £516:eek: . There was then a further cost of £99, and another hours work, to put the gas meter in the box and reconnect to the house (only if the house reconnection is less than 2meters of pipe work if it's more you need to get a plummer). This has left a hole in the drive which someone will come and fill - this doesn't incure any extra cost.

Hope this helped - prepare to be ripped off. I wish I earned their hourly rate!!!!!
