kindle wont turn on

i have a kindle fire ( bought about 15 months ago for my gran daughter to read, play games etc.)
Yesterday and all today we have tried to turn it on , as usual with the only button but, all we get on the screen is the word 'fire', it is fully charged, can only be turned off with the button.
it's sooooo annoying me , any help much appreciated.

First, unplug the Kindle Fire. Next, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds and then release it. Then, press the power button for 2 seconds and release it. Your Kindle Fire should now turn on with no problems.0
