Northern Rock Online Tracker

Hi,

First post, so be nice :)

Is 6.31% the best interest rate available on instant access, no penalty for withdrawals, minimum balance £1, online savings accounts?

http://www.northernrock.co.uk/savings/online-savings/

I can't find anything better, but this NR account doesn't appear in any comparisons (it didn't appear before the NR fiasco started either). Is this because I've missed something that makes this account uncompetitive, or are the comparison sites skipping it for some reason?

Thanks!

  • Where have you been in the last few day?
  • well there's nothing wrong with looking at northern rock accounts.

they were protected by FSA guarentee. Now the government is saying all amounts you deposit are guarenteed, so the OP should go for whatever is offering the best rates, as his money is currently 100% safe!

what happened in the last few days. did a uk bank go bust  , did anyone from a bank do a runner and leave customers high and dry. has anyone that has put money in a bank or building society lost money.. one thing that did happen was sky news had a break from the wall to wall coverage of the mcann story for a few days and some of its reporters were able to take part in some kind of pantomine.

todays sky news pantomine is david cameron

i felt a bit sorry for the people in newcastle region whos lives and livelyhoods could have been/might be affected by all the hype and speculation.

Well, yeah, this is what I thought. I'm just trying to work out if there's some catch I've missed! It's odd that this account isn't recommended anywhere - even before all this started. Could it be because the normal rate is 5% and the 6.31% is just a 12 month intro offer?
