Options
We have a school pta agm coming up and someone who is interested in running for chair but cannot make the agm, can they be nominated or appointed in their absence? Cant see anything on the pta uk site to advise.

You might do better asking on the Families or Education boards - this is hardly a charity issue.
  • It is in the sense that it is a registered charity and other charities will have similar constitutions

The PTA constitution should give you an answer. I would put a nomination in writing to the Secretary and Chair. Most groups are glad of anyone wanting to stand.
Has your 'someone' been involved in the PTA before? Diving in as Chair isn't always the best way to go, sometimes its easier to join and get the feel of the role first. If the 'voters' know your 'someone' then it should be fine but if they are not familiar with 'someone' then would they vote for them?

The short answer is yes, they can be, as long as they have indicated their willingness to stand.
  • If you already have a chair and another person wishes to stand then you are in a fantastic position.

My children's school (over 800 pupils, so around 1600 parents) PTA folded a couple of years ago because we couldn't form a committee.
