Multiple estate agencies selling for you, how many is too much?

We're selling up and have decided to go with 2 local estate agents. Since then we've had about 5 other agents get in touch offering their services.
My natural inclination - pure gut feeling - is to say no to them. Something says it looks desperate to have more than 2-3 selling for you?
But is my gut feeling right? Maybe one of these other 5 has my future buyer on their books?
I might say to them, "look, it's on rightmove now - show it to the people on your books and if they want to come around and look we can look into signing an agency agreement".
What say the experts?
Maybe it only looks desperate if you start lowering the price, why should having it on 7 agents' site at the same price look desperate?

I thought you were selling and then you said tenancy agreement, so which is it?0

Why did you decide to go with two rather than one from the outset? To me, if I see two boards I always assume they are having trouble selling.
With most agents using all the main selling sites, I don't see why more than one is needed. Maybe other posters will enlighten me!0 -
Price is the issue if your having trouble selling.
Is your house reasonably priced and why?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

To be honest do people really just register with estate agents for property details these days or just look on Rightmove.
If its on Rightmove assuming its portrayed well more than once wont help. Seeing it on more than once (nevermind 6 times would be just annoying).
If you can get a better fee by sole agency I would try that first.0 -
I'm another one who sees more than one agent as suggesting problems.
I guess the only reason to have two might be to play them off one another to generate sales - the first people we tried to buy from last time were like that. Their house wasn't hard to sell, but seeing as it was an empty former rental they were happy for multiple agencies to show it to multiple people even when they'd accepted an offer from someone else (us, for example)0 -
Two is one too many in my book.0

Get it on to rightmove/prime location and 95% of buyers will see it.
Why pay extra fees for a multi agency agreement just for the other 5%?
But make sureyou don't commit to 24 months contract. If the agent turns out no good you'll be pulling your hair out. 6 - 8 weeks max. After that you can choose whether to stay with them or go elsewhere.0
