Be warned: do not use W Sneddon builder

Please beware of this builder - I would not want anyone else to be left in the same position as he left me.
After several months of work, Will Sneddon got himself into a position where he had cash in hand from me and then abandoned the job unfinished.
Not only that, he left 35 bags of concrete rubble outside my front door making it almost inaccessible, and a shed full of other debris and waste from months of work. This was on top of the many pieces of work that were left uncompleted along with a phone line he had broken. To make matters worse, he also refused to return my keys.
As a result, I have had to pay again to have the work completed, shoddy work re-done, the rubbish removed and to have my locks chanAs just one example of his poor workmanship, the grouting in a fully tiled shower room has had to be re-done. He used the wrong colour adhesive which stained the grout in patches throughout.
ged.
If you want a job done properly and to be completed, be very, very careful. Towards the end of the job, he will run out of money, will cut corners, stop caring and ultimately will abandon your job as he did mine.

I've been considering creating something myself, kind of like "Un-Rated People" after my experiences with two cowboy builders and thieves that I employed through Rated People believing that using this website would help find someone more reliable.
Rated People claim to verify the identities of traders registering on their website by checking the electoral roll, credit reference agencies, and using photographic ID such as a driving license or passport. I have discovered that their so called checks aren't done, or certainly not done correctly as both Joseph Bonner of Calne, and Ian Jenkins of Swindon, the two cowboy builders I employed, both used false information to register on Rated People, and both have registered on Rated People numerous times using different names, addresses and IDs.
Both Joseph Bonner, Calne, and Ian Jenkins, Swindon, have County Court Judgements raised against them and I've obtained a Bailiff's Warrant of Control. In the case of Joseph Bonner it appears that he has many other CCJs against him.
Trading standards and the Police have been involved but progress in my view is slow. TV programs are allowed to name and shame. Victims should do so too and publish their experiences on the web so that other people aren't defrauded.
I've already received thanks from many people that have seen information I've published about these individuals because I've saved them from becoming victims, and in the case of one person, thanks that her ID wasn't used falsely by Joseph Bonner to re-register on Rated People.0 -

What else do you think could be done to truly verify identity?:(
WHat did rated people do exactly, or not do? Are we saying these people used other people's passports as I/d?
It's only fair that their has to be some evidence of their wrongdoing to expose their activities online, otherwise a malicious person could try to destroy a competitions reputation.0 -

Just had a look at their website - at least they're getting some free advertising0 -
Rated People claim on their website to verify the trader's identities by checking them against the electral roll, with a credit checking agency, and by checking a photo ID such as a driving license or passport.
I have found this claim to be very dubious.
In the case of Joseph Bonner I found that he had registered on Rated People using the name Danny Dunn and the address 15 Beverly Close, Melksham whereas his real address is 7 Comet Crescent, Calne. After he ripped us off I complained to Rated People, told them his real name of Joseph Bonner, and real address of 7 Comet Crescent, Calne, and Rated People expelled him from their site. A very short time later I had a phone call from Joseph Bonner, posing as a different trader on Rated People (the idiot hadn't realised he was phoning one of his past victims!). When I checked with RatedPeople they told me that the new company was registered to 3 Comet Crescent, Calne under the surname Bonner, using a different christian name. I contacted Rated People who expelled him again. I also contact the tenent living at 3 Comet Crescent who was very grateful to hear from me as it turned out he had used the address falsely and she was very concerned that irate customers might knock on her door. A meeting was arranged between the housing association that owns both 3 and 7 Comet Crescent (Sovereign Housing), the Bonner family, the resident of 3 Comet Crescent, and a Police Community Support Officer. What appears to have happened is a total whitewash on the side of Sovereign Housing Association and the PCSO. I have since learned of at least three other occurrences of Joseph Bonner re-registering on Rated People. He keeps getting kicked off but only after some poor unfortunate victim loses money and then complains to Rated People. Most recently he registered on a new site called Book A Builder.
The other cowboy - Peter Jenkins - used an address in Manchester as his ID for Rated People, but another address - a caravan on a traveler site on Kingsdown Lane, Swindon, is his real address.
From our experiences sites such as Rated People, Book A Builder, FindaTrade are mostly pretty lax when it comes to checking Trader's identities and trustworthiness, these sites then advertise to you and me that they are very safe and only full of reliable and trustworthy traders so if you use their sites you will avoid hiring a cowboy, then when things do go wrong they will eject the trader, and disavow themselves of any responsibility for matching you up with the trader.0 -
Rather than use sites that have a vested interest, concentrate on local social media sites, such as streetlife.com or nextdoor.co.uk
- personally I prefer the former!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0
