Electoral roll

in Credit cards
Hi!
First of all, I apologise if this question has been asked and answered in the past. I've recently moved to the UK and I'm looking for a credit card that would allow me to build credit. For that to happen, the first thing I need to do is apparently registering to the electoral roll. Probably a stupid question, but how do I do that?
Thanks!

I don't know. What does it say when you put your postcode in?
If I put mine in it takes me to the relevant page of my council's website where it says:
'You can register online. You will need your National Insurance number'
What does yours say?0 -

I don't think so. It tends to be really straightforward. Some councils even send out an annual form to all residences inviting residents to fill in their details. Note that you need to be a UK, Commonwealth, or EU citizen to be allowed on the electoral roll (so not, say, American...)
It will take the credit reference agencies a month or two to work out you're on it. Double check with them before you apply for anything.0 -
Thanks for the replies, guys. Well delayed, but there you go. The thing is I'm a Norwegian citizen, which means I can't get on the electoral roll. Not according to my partner who did the research on my behalf, anyway. I even got denied a credit card from Vanquis, so I'm guessing I can put this to bed already.
As I said, though, thanks for the replies!0 -

Actually it's more a case of threatening residents with fines if they don't fill in their details. Don't ever the sign the form they send out. You, as an individual, are not obliged to do so. Simply enter any changes and send it off unsigned.0
