MoD a pain in the ar#e!!

Having eventually received an exchange/completion date last week for 21st september, the purchaser's solicitor requested funds from the MoD early so that she would receive them on time. (Purchaser is in the forces and is using an LSAP towards funding).

It was only today that the MoD have said that there is a problem with the purchaser's signature in that it looked slightly different to his other signatures they have on file (he signed it in Afghan on duty!!), and that completion now wouldn't be until the following Friday.

Purchaser's sol can't understand why they hadn't told her before now and no-one can understand why they still can't request it tomorrow, as the purchaser was sorting this out today with MoD from Cyprus.

I would never ever recommend dealing with the MoD and feel really sorry for all the soldiers that are either stuffed with crappy living quarters or, when trying to buy their own place, get stuffed by their admin and a bunch of jobsworth pen-pushers.

The powers that be will seriously need to sort this system out if they are to raise the LSAP limit from 8500 to 30,000.

Has anyone else had any similar experiences?

    just hang in there.
All government departments are notoriously slow and inefficient.

Which is why, if I was a northern rock customer, I would want to take my money out rather than be reassured that the government will compensate me for any losses.

Imagine how long that would take.

    best wishes

    LSAP?

I once thought about joining up as a regular officer back when I was young and stupid. They lost my application forums THREE TIMES!!!

    Happily I never joined....

  • LSAP - Longstanding Service Advance Payout but I'm sure you could think of something more imaginative!!

I have nightmares of General Melchett using the application as toilet paper...naaayyyy!!

The MoD and Northern Rock have got one thing in common - they're both bankers!

As a currently serving soldier I know what you mean about LSAP (Long Service Advance of Pay). We're in the process of buying our first house and I'm going to use LSAP but it's a pain to complete. There are so many rules and paperwork, you can't buy the house first and use the money after so this holds up the process. As someone who works in admin it's not our fault - it's the bigwigs in London. Anyway, 5k doesn't really get you a lot these days (if you borrow over 5k you get taxed on it).
  • I really do sympathise with you - the problem is made worse when you have to get the bank/building society to accept this loan as a second charge on the property - it took the Chelsea and MoD a month to sort this out!!

We are now on our third exchange/completion date for next Tuesday - fingers crossed!!

The best advice I could give you, after being on the other end, is to keep your vendor informed (so they know its not you to blame!), and to chase up as many things as you can yourself.

Very best of luck to you - it will be worth it in the end....

  • I sympathise but we must remember that this is taxpayers money and the MoD need to ensure that fraudulent claims are not let through. If only the benefits agency were as thorough.

    :)

  • GG - I agree with you, but the annoying point was that they only decided to do this four days after they said they had released funds - the purchaser's solicitor only discovered this when she queried why the funds hadn't been received....:o

  • In the process of buying our first house, applied for the LSAP was informed that i would get it, then the problems started.

LSAP office did not tell the solicitor that the consent form had to be specifically worded in favour of the MOD, my mortgage company has refused to change their consent form to suit the MOD (Alliance & Leicester). so i am now not able to claim LSAP.

They have said its in the regs but i cannot find it. what a pain in the !!!!.

the way the MOD make you jump through hoops you would think they own a big part of the house.

After 21 years service this is how i get repaid, it's an advance of pay (supposedly). but in all honesty its a loan secured on the house.

Thank god for NATWEST they agreed the loan within minutes and the money transfered into my account within three hours.

Also thanks MOD you have cost me an extra £2000 in interest over the time i wanted the LSAP, plus i could have completed weeks ago if you had told me you would be a pain in the !!!!
  • We got an LSAP with no problems whatsoever - hitch free, so the system does work!

I was never informed about the second charge on the house though. Luckily Halifax were very good and it wasnt an issue with them

Beware of problems when you move and purchase a new property - transferring an LASP can seriously slow down the process.

Does anyone have experiance of claiming RLE (Refund of Legal Expenses?) Especially if you cant afford to buy a place where you have posted to?
