From what I heard lately...No.
You can't bring any food or drink with you (unless it's babyfood and milk) thru security gate BUT once you pass thru it you can stop at the shops and buy food to take with you. I'm sure it's a wee bit cheaper than on the plan.

I don't know if it varies from airport to airport, but I flew from Stanstead to Greece at the end of August and took sarnies from Tesco, we didn't "declare" them, just left them in our hand luggage, my friends bag was searched and security saw them and nothing was said, lots of people did the same, so you should be ok. The other alternative is, is there a Boots on the airside of the airport you are going from ?, their sandwiches are the same price as their high street ones. You are certainly doing the right thing in trying to take them through, I flew with Xcell and their baguettes were £3.50-£4.50 and they weren't very substantial."Dogs come when they are called. Cats take a message and get back to you" :j :j0

I travelled last week with sandwiches in my bag and then yesterday i travelled with 2 big bags if crispos, packet of biccys and an apple, no probs at all. Possibly it depends on airport?? I was at liverpool.

It is only liquids that are restricted.
You are free to take any food you like as long as you do not break any import/export restrictions (e.g no raw beef)
From the BAA websiteBag content – Foodstuffs
Can I take liquids in containers over 100ml?
Not in hand luggage, these have to be packed in your main baggage that you check-in to the aircraft hold.
What foodstuffs can I carry in my hand luggage? Can I take my wedding cake?
You can take most solid food, including wedding cake. Food in sauces or dishes that have a high liquid content will need to be in containers 100ml or less, and go into a transparent, re-sealable bag.
Following the recent outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease, it is now illegal to take some meat and dairy products abroad. To find out more, please visit the Defra website www.defra.gov.uk or call 0845 933 5577.
What about yoghurts or fruit juices?
Yes but these need to be in containers 100ml or less, and go into your transparent, re-sealable bag.0 -
You can't take yoghourts, they exceed 100ml0
