Induction hob above an oven??

Hi....
Has anyone got an induction hob installed above a built under oven?
and does it cause any problems??

I want to install one in my new kitchen refit but read on another site that you shouldnt put this type of hob above an oven... They didnt say why not.

Any advice appreciated..

My m-i-l has had one of these in that arrangement for a couple of years, no problems. I'd not heard of that before, and would have thought the electrician would have mentioned it when installing it if it was.

I am about to buy all new appliances, but dont want to make an expensive mistake.
Apparrently Induction hobs require more space under them for ventilation..

I've got induction hob over electric fan oven, no problems so far after 4 years
  • Hi in answer to your question about induction hobs over ovens, i work in the kitchen industry and its fine to have an induction hob over a b/under oven, size may be a restriction ie.. how deep the hob is, the thickness of your worktop and the height of the oven, this is pos why you've found info saying you cant - as for venting, why would it need venting the hob doesnt heat up although the plates of the hob will be warm to touch when used as the pan will heat it. If in doubt question the retailer or manufactuer - hope this has helped (by the way they are a great product)

My SIL has just moved and inherited one. She is raving about it and I have to say it looked pretty damned easy to clean, no nooks and cranies, she just wipes it over with a cloth.

My gas hob has been down to 3 rings for ages and ages - I always swore I was a gas girl but now I'm sorely tempted - will be watching this thread too.

Induction hobs have sensitive electronics in them and are susceptible to damage from heat.

They can be installed above an oven but ONLY if both the oven and hob are properly ventilated. If they are not vented correctly the hob's electronics will fail and, trust me, you don't want the bill to put that right.

It happens especially where a cheap oven is fitted with no cooling fan and/or poor insulation allowing too much heat to bleed out which of course rises and builds up in the hob.

This is a mistake a lot of kitchen fitters (who don't read installation instructions) and DIYr's (who don't read installation instructions) make on a regular basis and then try to blame the manufacturer for a poor product, which simply is not the case. If you install it wrongly then the cost to put it right is yours, warranty or not.

Installed correctly though there shouldn't be an issue in most cases.
