Question re FlexDirect

Yes, I know one or more will pipe up and ask why I don't just ring them - to be honest it's late and I don't have the appetite for a call centre right now.
So, I opened one for the 5% rate and access to the 5% regular saver. Was accepted with no need to provide paper ID etc. Got a letter a couple of days ago telling me what my customer number, account number and sort code are. My PIN number arrived on the same day in a separate envelope. I went off to the website to set up Internet banking but couldn't as I was asked for my card number. No worries, just wait for the card to arrive. Card arrived today and just now sat down to register for Internet banking. Apparantly I need a card reader! Couldn't remember seeing anything about this so checked previous correspondence. Only reference I can see of this is in my welcome letter. No reference to it in the main text but it mentioned in a graphic of the LHS of the letter. According to the graphic I should have had this, almost, before anything else. Is it common for this to happen? Should I ring them? Is what's happening in my private life making me more irritable and irate than normal and I just need to relax and wait a few days?

I think I've seen it reported that you can pick one up from branch? Maybe others can confirm or deny this.
If you have a card reader from Tesco/NatWest/RBS/Co-op/etc I think any of them will work until yours arrives.
If you lived near me I'd drop you one off. I've a drawer full including 4 or 5 from Nationwide, 3 from Co-op, and a couple from each of RBS and Tesco!0 -
Never needed a card reader before so don't have one kicking around from another institution. Thanks for the offer though! Think I might try to wait a few days, I'm sure it's all in order, Nationwide seem to be pretty good so far.0

When I opened my first account with Nationwide my card reader was the last thing to arrive through the post, good few days after the card.0

I lost my card reader moving houses and I just went into one branch and picked one up.

I opened my Flexdirect earlier this year, and the card reader was the last to arrive.
I can't recall how long it took to arrive but remembering like you, anxious to get things going.
I think I initially got my account up and running using a Natwest Card Reader after reading something on these forums0 -
Just go into a branch and ask for a card reader, mine took ages through the post.0

It's a bit chicken and egg.
Once it's all set up, you can log in using Memorable Data, without using card and reader.
You can also order a card reader online, but I don't know if you can without online banking already set up.
I like it this way. The harder it is for some imposter to set up an account, the BETTER.0 -
Thank you all for taking the time to reply. It seems most had the experience as me so I will relax about it. Will pop into a branch if I'm passing but may just wait for it to arrive. Thanks again!0
