Vanquis - Pre-App checker

Vanquis have launched a pre-app checker, although it seems selective when it's displayed (at the moment I can't see it in normal mode, but can on a incognito window!).

The direct link is https://pre-qual.vanquis.co.uk/pre-qual

It suggests you can check if you're approved - but not sure if they give 100% acceptance.

I get 60% chance on third party tools powered by HDD (e.g. MSE & Totally Money). When I put my details in direct, it says you 'may' be eligible and invites me to complete the app.

Interestingly the address bar says /refer at the top - suggesting if I did complete, I'd probably be referred to underwriters.

Might help someone else out - will be interesting to know if anyone gets /accept (or similar) after filling the form in, and whether it's guaranteed (like Capital One and others) or not.

I tried the checker and it said I may be accepted but I won't be applying!

I tried the checker and told me I'd been accepted (pending final checks with the CRAs).

Won't be applying either as I've got credit cards elsewhere and don't need it.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

    https://pre-qual.vanquis.co.uk/pre-qual:
If you do not become a Vanquis customer straightaway, we may use your information to review your credit file (only soft credit searches will be made) for up to 3 years and tell you (by email, post, telephone and/or SMS) about other similar Vanquis products and services that you may be eligible for (including for example our credit tracker service).

Vanquis will probably continue to check your credit file for the next three years and contact you from time to time to try to gain your custom.

    You can opt out:
    3. When does the Vanquis soft credit search service start and when does it end?

3.1. The Vanquis soft credit search service will commence when you submit your fully completed Vanquis soft credit search form.

3.2. The Vanquis soft credit search service will end when either:

3.2.1. you become a Vanquis customer; or

3.2.2. you tell us that you don’t want to use the Vanquis soft credit search service anymore; or

3.2.3. three years after you submit your Vanquis soft credit search form to us; whichever is the earliest.

3.3. If you want to stop using the Vanquis soft credit search service please call our customer services on 0330 099 3000* and we will remove your information as soon as reasonably practical.

A good point re: Marketing - that seems very similar to Capital One and others though.

Also, I'd argue it's actually a benefit for anyone like me that genuinely needs a credit builder card and gets anything below the 'accepted pending CRA/fraud checks' message - it'd be nice to have a email pop through saying something along the lines of "we've reviewed your credit file again.... due to improvements made... you'll be accepted subject to acceptable income & full application".

Fair point that people just trying it to see what happens may like to Opt Out though!

Ah, there are different responses then :) I might wait for the accepted pending final checks, rather than put one through now on 'maybe' and get blocked from applying for another 6 months!
