What's the model of the PSU? Modern PSUs tend to have a combination of 8 pin and 6+2 pin connectors for gpus. Use the last one if there is one available by removing the two pins. Let us know how you get on.0
-
If the psu has an 8 pin graphics connector that should fit the 6 pin on the graphics card
Otherwise you could use something like this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/pud/Akasa-AK-CB4-6-cable-adapter/B00118EWLS/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1482352307&sr=1-4&keywords=molex+to+6+pin+adapter
But be careful - if the PSU doesn't have a 6 pin adapter there's a good chance it doesn't provide enough power for your graphics card, in which case things may get all smokey and burny.
First time I've heard that mate. What's important is the total power requirements aren't exceeded on the rails.0 -
Cookie365 and iamlucky18 - thank you both for responding.
the PSU is an Ace Model A-500BR ATX switching power supply (it's 500W).
I can see a few connectors that might be the ones that you guys have mentioned, but I'm not convinced if they are the right ones. If you are ok to PM me an e-mail address I can send a couple of photos to get your thoughts.
Thanks again0 -
I'm sorry but that PSU is very old and known to cause issues. It came with the new PC? Where did you buy the PC from?0
-
It's brand new, I'm struggling to paste the link from my phone but it was the one on the previous page from box.co.uk0
-
What a horrid pile of s*e.
Your 'ACE' really doesn't have any graphics card adapters, But I wouldn't try using the converter I linked to before with this heap of junk, I'd adapt the PSU by connecting it to the bin.
Whether you can get a refund off Box for selling you something so terrible is a different matter, personally I wouldn't even turn on a computer that had a junk PSU like that in it.
Get a proper PSU pronto.
Personally I love the BeQuiet range, if you want something low cost their System Power 8 models would be ideal.0 -

Hi All – I parked this issue over the Christmas period, but back to it now.
I’ve taken cookie365’s advice and found a Be Quiet PSU. I’m tempted with the 600W over the 500W as there is little difference in price. Obviously this is not my area of expertise so before I order I’d appreciated someone’s experienced eye just to confirm that the PSU in the link below does have the 6 pin power connector for the graphics card

Many thanks0 -
It's got 4 of them
The 500W version has 2

The 4th picture in your Amazon link shows what cables you get. The graphics card adapters are the 6+2 variety, so they'll fit any card. Don't confuse them with the secondary motherboard adapters which are 4+40 -
