Upvc door v composite door?

    Thanks for replies.

Well I was thinking about fitting a composite door at back as well.

I had a few brochures from a company who do windows and door and supply to trade only. I rang them up and spoke to a very helpful chap who confirmed that the composite doors do look better, but then went on to say that the manufacturing process nowadays for Upvc doors are much better than 10 years ago, and in his opinion the composite were not worth the extra price.

As a result of this and your good advice on here I think I will put composite at front and standard pvc door at back.

On a different note is a 20mm spacing in double glazed windows (from front glass to back glass) enough in your opinion, don't really need it for noise reduction?

    Thanks

Be careful with your choice of composite door. Mine is a DoorStop and it is a dreadful quality piece of work. It is also red and fading.

DoorStop are cheap and nasty with absolutely zero customer back up. However one has to ask are their major competitors any better for quality and back up?

Had my composite door been brown, or black, it is most likely the fading would have been far worse.

In contrast my back door is a trade supplied pvcu door. The hinges, the feel and the weight are vastly better than the DoorStop composite door. However like countless doors the locking mechanism, and handle, leave a lot to be desired.

I don't quite understand the recommendation you had that your front door should be sturdier than your back door.

I don't have police statistics to hand, but I will wager that more break-ins are through the back door.

I went through the same choices as you, and ended up with a solid oak door which was cheaper than either pvc or composite, and very solid.
