How Long Do American Express Hold Application Forms

My husband had an application form with American Express about 9 years ago through his company at the time. The company gladly let him use this card for personal and business use but were not always particular at paying up for the business trips involved. When he left the company about 7 years ago, we still owed around £20000 on the card. They issued a CCJ and a secured charge on our porperty. We paid off about £10000 of this and when we moved in 2001, they then applied to have a CCJ and consequently a charge on our new property. We still owe them this money to date, as we have not been able to pay anything off, My question is am I too late to claim at all for charges on this account? How long would they hold the original documentation for? If I request this and they cannot supply this - can they still enforce this debt? It is still with their solicitors. I cannot afford to remortgage and pay them off either as it is affecting the LTV and therefore not enough equity (kicked themselves in the teeth here).
