Hi,

I have question regarding party wall agreement; well two main questions.

a) Do I definitely need a surveyor for this? Or can I submit the form (using template available online) and get signature from neighbour? It wasnt clear from online reading on whether surveyor needed only if there is dispute OR whether surveyor needed in any case and they will record the pre-work status before work begins.

b) Assuming agreement is signed and work begins... and during the work or after the work neighbour notices some damage to their property. What happens now? Whos responsibility is it to fix?

Get a surveyor.

If you damage someone elses property you would be liable for repairs.

You can issue the party wall notice yourself. The surveyor is only needed if the neighbour dissents.

It's quite obviously your responsibility to fix any problems. Inform your home insurance of any works. It will help if your builder has contract works cover as well.
