Holiday price not as originally advertised

I wonder if anyone can help me i went on a music holiday festival to malaga spain october of this year, while there the company we booked with, enjoy travel, were advertising for next years trip for £599 and were taking deposits of €5 (we were informed this would be converted to pounds when we got home) anyway the issue is that ive just had my invoice/booking confirmation through and it says the holiday is £649 it is also advertised on there website at this price but that is 100% not the price we advertised when putting down the deposit.by the time i had realised this the company were shut so am yet to phone them i just wondered if anyone has ever experienced anything like this.i feel surely the price advertised is what we should be paying but we have no proof that that was the price written on a big white piece of paper near the travel desk in the hotel
Any advice on this matter would be fantastic before i phone up tomorrow and complain
Thanks in advance
Lisa

Could it be because the gig is in Spain and the prices there will be in Euro,s and the £ has fallen in value against the Euro?

This will be down to the £ not being worth the paper it's printed on.
  • I guess there going to come back and say its something to do with the pound falling against the euro but surely if they advertise a price that is what i should pay there an english company so should have taken that into consideration when advertising the holiday at the original price.which was only a month ago and its jumped by £50 in a month!

I'm guessing their crystal ball used for predicting the fall in Sterling was out of action the day they posted the Ad.

It's harsh but you will get nowhere pursuing this. Prices change, sh it happens.

Surely when you paid the deposit you asked for, and got, something in writing confirming the deposit paid and the remaining balance due?
If so, what does this state?
If not, I don't see how you have any kind of agreement on price
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

Do you have a copy of the terms and agreement for your new "booking". You surely got some kind of written agreement in exchange for your fiver ?

Or was the fiver just an expression of interest to get you first refusal for a place ?

What were you actually paying for ?

Are you sure the price was quoted in pounds yet the deposit was asked for in Euros ? It seems very strange to advertise in pounds in a foreign hotel but if they did if the event is only sold to or of interest to. Brits then yes it seems obvious that the pound has fallen massively against the Euro (and the dollar) so of course it's going to be more . Suggesting they would only claim it would is nonsense, it'd be financial suicide for a small travel company to cover the fall as it is massive. Surely you can see for yourself that the number of euros you get for your pounds is much less now than it was earlier in the year and is likely to stay that way for some time after the EU vote ?

Frankly fifty quid more sounds about right however I'd be wanting to know if that is a fixed price or if the pound falls further would there be a surcharge.
