Recommend new laptop under £500

My 2 children need a new laptop between them for schoolwork/ exams in the near future-any recommendations -is SSD hard drive a must?

No it isn't, but it makes the thing more responsive and more robust.

Cheaper to fit it yourself.

What's the make and exact model of the current laptop, perhaps that's worth upgrading to a SSD.

For a second laptop, you'll get plenty for much less than £500.
