renting & bills ect

Hi Guys & Gals!

Im looking in to moving back to the UK after years of living abroad.

I was wondering if you guys could help me out and come up with an average monthly cost of living. i have checked several websites and they say its about 1300 quid ish.

What do you have to pay for rentals ect? i am not familiar with council taxes and stuff so if i could get a list of what basics you pay monthly that would be appreciated!

Cheers,

How long is a piece of string?

It all depends on what sort of property you're going to be renting, and whereabouts in the country. Council tax will depend on your area, bills will vary massively based on the size of the property and how many of you are living there. Why not have a look at properties to let on Rightmove to get ideas of costs in your chosen area?

Rents you can find by searching relevant towns on http://www.Rightmove.co.uk
Council tax you can find online by keying in a postcode of an address online. e.g. http://www.mycounciltax.org.uk/content/index
A single person, living alone, would get a 25% discount.

Bills are variable, depending how much you use, of what sort, from which company, but a ballpark to start with might be £150-200/month to cover gas, water, electricity, TV licence, contents insurance, Internet, landline.

For renting, a typical affordability check is to divide your annual salary by 30. e.g. to pay rent of £600/month you'd need an income of £18,000.
